I knew what NFT’s were. I’ve owned a few in my lifetime.but after making a good crypto trade and having some disposable income, i decided to jump in and see if i could make some cash buying and selling the new profile picture craze.
Bored ape Yacht club had just exploded. It was basically bitcoin all over again. Some people had bought this funny picture of an ape for shits and giggles and now people were offering MEGA bucks to buy it off them.
In the aftermath of this profile pictures were shooting up left right and centre and figured. Yeno, What the heck lets get some. So after having a quick look through Opeansea i came across a collection that was in the process of minting.
But was there time to check out what they were before you bought them? No the hell not. They were being snapped up within moments of listing and then being relisted for double the price.
So in through gen x fashion i went balls deep in these strange sonic the hedgehog outcasts and yolo’d obscene amounts of money into weape24.
When the dust settled and all the apes were bought i had 3 apes in my collection.
Together with my new Simian crew. I clicked on the discord button. And the invite to the 24px server popped up.
“Accept invite” i clicked, and it felt like i had just been squirted with a water pistol. Only to have a firehose open up on me
This place was absolute madness!
I couldn’t keep up with the chat. Kept spamming memes about dead devs and Mike tyson.
What the hell was going on?
Through it all though there was a constant stream of “welcome apes” and friendly greetings but it was next to impossible to keep up. I was about to leave the server and drop my apes into the liquidation machine when i discovered the 2 channels that would be my home for the next few weeks. Non- Fuckery and Clues
It’s rare to find a Discord server that is so self aware it creates a chat to discuss calmly when the main chat descends into chaos. Non-Fuckery was this chat. While spamming and madness in chat wasn’t only allowed it was encouraged. Non-fuckery was a safe haven where people could discuss things calmly and in a civilised way.
It was here I learned of dev. His death and potential rebirth and the mystery that was hidden inside the cats. The sacred naked monkey cat and how it had prophesied of the coming of the ape. It was then i knew i was hooked
